Hey y'all
I have a question for the universe, or for the three Americans who, according to my stats counter thingy, have actually looked at this blog.
Why do you call Mathematics 'Math'?
I hear it on American TV shows all the time and it makes me cringe.
See, in Australia, we say "Maths', because it's a shortening of 'Mathematics' not 'Mathematic.'
(I feel like i have a spelling error somewhere up there, ^^^ but meh.
So, I'm just curious, if anyone wants to leave a comment and explain this mystery to me?
I’m afraid I wont be able to crack ‘name-of-the-universal subject’ mystery. However, what I would like to say is How I evny you sir!
ReplyDeleteEver since the tender age of 11, I came to the realization that math was not my thing. Cats were my thing. Dogs? Yeah. Cheesecake? Absolutely, but math no! it just wasn’t my thing,
You know how you got your own ‘thing’? you know what I mean, dontcha? Dontcha…DONTCHA????
Yeah, I just wanted to tell you that math isn’t my thing. It was a very important fact that needed t stated, so yeah.
Thanks for the comment meku...I have to confess I'm not really a maths person..anything more complicated than algebra really just confuses me. My 'thing' from the tender age of 11 was always words, literature.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you were able to get your thing out in the open like this.
(that's a sentence that really needs to be looked at in context! :P )
I do get my thing out in the open sometimes. But people for some weird reason have one or more of the following reactions:-
ReplyDelete(a) shocked
(b) confused
(c) disgusted
(d) have a severe laughing fit
They never get aroused. *sighs*
